This was my cultural create for the term. It is like a bandana from the Kayin state of Myanmar. I decided to make it because the bandana looked really pretty with all the strings. I used PVA glue, a piece of fabric, some beads, and red yarn.

On Thursday, Selina, CC, and I hosted a station about making star spheres. I have blogged about star spheres before. many other people from the senior syndicate (Team Tui). Many people made their own stations that have different activities and things that you can buy.
Our activity was not promoted due to the poster being a false advertisement and claiming ‘free prizes to be won’ when we did not have the time to set up prizes other than cat pictures. The star sphere activity was simple, not too fancy or flashy. That meant not much people came to our station.
Most of my energy was wasted from the performance because everyone sat there for at least an hour. I then decided to visit other people’s stands and give them cat pictures. I bought some blondies (food) and some loom bands.
Next time I did this I would try to focus on LCS only and try to use my time at home. The star ball idea was a very good idea, but it wasn’t well executed as I thought it would be.
I was filing a wood piece with a metal filer. The sides needed to be smooth for engraving the Matariki face that we were soon to outline. We were making the faces of the Matariki stars, e.g. Hiwa-i-te-rangi is one of the stars. I was soon to engrave a face I outlined in pencil.
For my LCS create, I created a paper star sphere that can be held in your hands. It is composed of many swirly star shapes. I needed ~60 (approximately 60) circles to make this. All 60 circles needed to be 9cm in diameter. With rough handling it breaks easily so I had to reinforce the curls to be more ‘curly’ so it could lessen the chances of that.
For our LCS topic, we are learning about Matariki. Matariki is a time to celebrate the Maori new year and gather with people. This is the learn part of my slides. This is the learn part of my slides. My create will be blogged later. The context of these slides contains all the stars of the cluster and the mythology and symbolism about them .
For this art we were inspired by the artist Raewyn Harris. She includes lots of patterns and also does art that are like landscapes. The picture above is my art that has a lot of koru, flowers and Burmese patterns. You can express your culture just with patterns or landscapes.
Our LCS was about the NZ regions and we would LCS (learn, create, share) about it. The NZ region we worked on was all about Hawke’s Bay. (I worked with Sadaw and Maia, just so you know)
