What is blackout poetry? You extract a piece of text (credit them), find words that join up to make sentences, and black out the rest. Here is my blackout poetry about cats.
The slides have been renamed to Our polyline drawings because it is now a collaboration slide with my friends. If you don’t know what this is, I made ‘bytes’ that are made of polyline in Google slides. This is the 11th installment but you can go see previous ones on slide 2.
This Cybersmart task taught us to use certain things in Google Drawings, such as word art, borders, and text boxes. I chose to make a wanted poster about my cat Lily. Here is the result. (Lily is actually a very good cat)
For an activity, our class made a Kākahu, a Maori cloak made from feathers. Every feather has a name, and what they like. For example, I am Phyu Sin, I like cats because they are cute.
A pepeha is a way to introduce yourself and tell a story. Your school, your family, your suburb, many things are in your pepeha. It also makes connections to the land, like the mountain you live near, the river, and the ocean. Here is my pepeha that I made in Canva.
What is affirmation? Affirmation means ‘giving support and encouragement’ and Team Tui thought of their own motivational words, or words of affirmation. An example of some words of affirmation is ‘ I am an amazing person.’ Positive thinking can boost confidence/self-esteem. Here is a video of our words of affirmation.
The word expo means a large exhibition, which is what happened on Friday. First, there was an assembly featuring the year 8’s leave (all the best to them). Then, the exhibition started. Many other students came to explore Team Tui’s classes and their cultural arts. There was also a sale running to raise money for the year 8 leavers’ hoodies.
This was my cultural create for the term. It is like a bandana from the Kayin state of Myanmar. I decided to make it because the bandana looked really pretty with all the strings. I used PVA glue, a piece of fabric, some beads, and red yarn.
Have you ever wondered why cats are so cute? So cute you want to cuddle or swallow them?
It is because there is a psychological response to cuteness that your brain has. The cats have very cute features that might resemble babies. Small noses, big eyes, large foreheads, that’s what makes them so cute. Also, they have fur that is soft to touch, they have high pitched meows that makes everyone go ‘Aww!!!’ . They also have playful behavior that lures you in.
The cuteness response was also evolved because cuteness can also cause you to take care of the cute creature, and that could be good for caring for your young. This effect also applies to other animals with similar features.

There was a Wednesday when we got to watch films from other schools that were no longer than 3 mins. Some of them were funny, and some of them came with an important message or just a genre that the film makers were interested in. There were no snacks you could eat, but it was very dark and quiet I almost fell asleep but then I did shadow puppets when the light shone near my seat. My favourite movie was when there was a sad world but there were 3 clowns that were on the loose.
The Manaiakalani film fest happens every year and every school (even mine) participates to create films for a lot of other schools to see!
